Ceramics Auction – fundraising for the Summer Show

Collecting for our auction has taken us on a journey of multiple opportunities. We began at the annual ceramics festival at Hatfield House where a number of generous ceramists, makers and potters gifted our cause and taught us the pleasure and privilege of networking. Forging connections within the ceramics community is key to any ceramist’s life style; supporting one another other, sharing skills, knowledge, experience is in our blood!
The auction has encouraged us to meet and engage with ceramists from all over the world from Australia via the work of Pippin Drysdale and Holly MacDonald, to America via Jason Walker, to Danish potters Stine Dulong. We have contributions from the ‘Great British Throw Down’ contestants Nam Tran and Jane Williams and their skilled Tech Dem Rich Miller!
But this hasn’t all been for material gains, the act of networking naturally leads to research to learning more about the wider field of ceramics professionally and the diverse applications of this magnificent material. From traditional potters retaining historical throwing techniques, alternative firings, the sculptural and hand built, to more design based, decorative ware.
In our growing auction we have over thirty pieces going under the hammer! These incredible donations have been gifted by renowned artists in the field from Kate Malone, Jin Eui Kim, Paul Young, Sara Moorhouse, Jeremy Nichols and our very own esteemed ceramics staff Duncan Ayscough and Claire Curneen.
All work will be available to view a week before the auction in the Foyer Gallery at Cardiff School of Art and Design.
The auction date is Friday 1st December. A selection of pieces will be under silent auction beginning at 5pm where bids are written and the highest accepted. The ‘Live Auction’ will begin at 6pm.
We hope you can join us for a night of friendly fund raising fun, fuelled by a bar and creative inspiring chatter!
All proceeds raised will contribute to funding our end of year Summer Show, our first major platform to showcase our work.
