Illustration students, graduates and staff discuss International Women’s Day

On Thursday 2nd March 2017 three illustration students, Sophie Keen (third year), Jess Jenkins (third year) and Jessica Slight (second year), along with illustration graduates Osian Grifford and Jamie Stevenson, and the Programme Director for Illustration Amelia Johnstone, hosted the Radio programme Pitch/Illustration/Radio Radio Cardiff 98.7fm to discuss International Women’s day with Guests from the Cardiff and Swansea events – Bethan Morgan from Cardiff’s Mercury Theatre and Melissa Wood from the Women’s Equality Network.

The discussion focused initially upon Bethan Morgans’ new play ’35 Times’ which is about domestic abuse, this lead to a conversation about how art, illustration, and animation have the ability to discuss difficult issues in an engaging way.

Melissa went on to explain the format for the day and how the events would move from Swansea to Cardiff and in parallel with each other. In the second half of the show the students discussed their project work, some which is for the Creative Conscience awards, and third year dissertation and final projects.
