As a part of students second year Field studies here at Cardiff School of Art & Design students are offered opportunities to study projects that involve international travel, business start-up advice, and work experience, amongst other things.
Cheryl Turner, a second year Architectural Design & Technology student elected to undertake a work experience placement as a part of her Field studies this year.
Cheryl said the following on reflecting upon her Field module work experience:
“Along with the academic elements the architectural design and technology course offers students a work placement module which was a great way to gain a better understanding of how an architectural practice works. I was able to use the design skills I have learnt over the past year at Cardiff Met in a professional practice. The skills I had learnt on the architectural design and technology course, in particular using Revit software, were invaluable during my work placement. The practice picked up on my skill using Revit and gave me a live brief to work on which involved designing a house – and the designs were accepted by the client!
Since the work placement module I have landed myself an paid placement with the architect firm. This will highly benefit my own Architectural Design and Technology studies at Cardiff Met and be a great addition to my CV. I have made some great contacts and I am excited to get stuck in with new role as Junior Architectural Technician before returning for my final year.”
