‘Pader’ (Welsh for ‘grace’) is a new sculptural installation by Carwyn Evans. Utilising his own translations of minimal sculptures – rendered into hardwood forms – they become supports for found objects and materials that reference his own heritage and sense of place.
Evans’ practice draws and extends from his own personal and cultural experiences. He has previously reflected on migrations, translations and mutations, and their blurring effect on culture, society and politics. Most recently, this aspect has become less apparent due to a clear shift in the ‘charge’ of his work – moving away from overt illustration to meanings of attraction and repulsion; desire and disgust; shift and sunshine – making the viewer think or feel, rather than read.
‘Pader’ features as part of the new CSAD Exhibitions Series.
Cardiff School of Art and Design presents a survey of contemporary sculpture by Wales based artists through a series of specially installed art works. The series will examine current discourse around free-standing sculpture through the work of these artists who are engaged in pushing the boundaries of the medium .
This exhibition programme is curated by Prof. Andre Stitt of Cardiff School of Art and Design.
