Circle Line: A collaboration between RWCMD & CSAD

Circle Line: A Journey Upstream

In the Autumn Term 2016 students from CSAD and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama collaborated to create an experimental documentary film with original music. Led by Senior Lecturer for Illustration, Chris Glynn, the piece was created in seven sections, each made by a multi-disciplinary team of students including those from our Illustration, Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textiles, and Artist Designer Maker programmes.

Circle Line: A collaboration between RWCMD & CSAD

Circle Line explores connections between Cardiff’s industrial wealth and it’s sources, reflecting shifts in understanding of landscape and recreation. Students started by drawing a line from insole Court to the far end of the Brecon Mountain Railway. The group then made this journey by train, collecting footage and meeting the composers on the way. Further field recording trips were made to Barry, port Talbot, and Big Pit in Blaenavon.

The Circle Line project was delivered as a part of our second year trans-disciplinary Field module which facilitates cross-course collaboration amongst our students. Each team developed its own creative manifesto, methods and themes, working with archive material and learning about the challenges of editing and collaboration.

The film was screened at insole Court on the 8 December 2016.
