CSAD Summer Show 2019 Community Day: 2 June 2019

12 noon to 4pm, Sunday 2 June

We’re giving Summer Show visitors the opportunity to learn some of the skills we teach at CSAD  so come along and join a painting class, learn to laser cut or design and embroider a badge, made a pot or programme a Raspberry Pi.

 Activity information

Have a go – throwing a pot on the wheel!

 Hands on experience – from preparing the clay to learning to control the speed of the wheel, centering the clay, and then having a go at throwing! One ball of clay per person.

Aprons will be provided – but clothes might get a bit dusty.

Time:  1-1.45pm, 1.45-2.30pm, 2.30-3.15pm – sign up in the CSAD foyer for a slot

Who is the activity aimed at:   Adults and children, age 8 and above. All children must be accompanied by an adult.   Teenagers need an adult present but can have a go at throwing on their own.

NB: Pots will not be fired but can be taken home if desired

Paint a watercolour landscape

Have a go at painting a landscape using watercolours using a step by step technique that will allow you to reproduce a famous old master painting.

Time: 1-3pm – drop in and have a go

Creative Hacking Workshop

Aidan Taylor is hosting a drop in Creative Hacking Workshop which will allow participants to hack an interactive light sculpture. No prior experience is necessary, come to learn about the possibilities with hackable hardware and creative programming.

 Time: 1-3pm – drop in and have a go

Design and stitch

 This 1-hour relaxed taster workshop introduces you to freehand embroidery and applique to design and stitch a brooch, patch or key-fob to finish at home.  The session will whet your appetite for the range of the exciting textile techniques on offer through recreational classes at Cardiff Open Art School.

 Time: 1-2pm or 2-3pm – sign up in the CSAD foyer for a slot.

Laser Cut a Badge

Participants will choose a pre-determined badge shape, add their name and engrave / cut the badge out of plywood on FabLab’s laser cutters.

Time: Drop-in 12-2pm – first come first served, then 2-4pm – sign up for a slot when you arrive.

Who is the activity aimed at: Adults and children, age 8 and above. All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Either parent or child must have some computer savvy.
